7th Annual ALTER disABILITY Mundus Doctoral School

(Self)Representing disABILITY

September 1-4, 2019

This year’s doctoral school, (Self)Representing disAbILITY, is linked to the 8th Annual Conference of ALTER-ESDR’s theme: Histories, Practices and Policies of Disability: International, Comparative and Transdisciplinary Perspectives, which is linked to disABILITY MUNDUS, a group of European academics and universities who are actively engaged in and support scholarly research on disability. It takes place in cooperation with the University of Cologne, The Graduate School of the Faculty of Human Sciences, and iDiS, the International Research Unit in Disability Studies.

Our focus, (Self)Representing disABILITY, is about questioning society through and with accounts on how disability is currently and has been historically represented through first person perspectives that inform research, practices, policies and more. Basically, we will explore this slogan “Nothing About Us Without Us”, which came into use in international disability activism during the 1990s.

We invite participants who have completed at least one year of their PhD program and are in the process of researching issues in disability through sociology, education, nursing, policy, anthropology, linguistics, family studies, design, material culture, medicine, technology, and more. Experts from around the world lead the doctoral school through a transdisciplinary approach by interrogating issues, practices and perspectives on disability.

To attend (Self)Representing disABILITY please prepare a 500 word abstract of your dissertation project and upload it to the application form: http://www.hf-graduiertenschule.uni-koeln.de/31586.html by May 30, 2019.
